Building Permit in Edmonton is generally required for most construction type of work. This will include any related major architectural construction work, renovation work, mechanical and electrical work etc. Minor work work such as moving or building a few non-loadbearing or non-structural walls, painting, replacing doors and windows (without changing the size of the openings), rear open decks (non covered) under 24″ in height, standard fences, changing floor finishes and etc.
Normally in most new development, an Edmonton Development Permit must be approved first prior to the approval of the Building Permit. Also remember that final approval of the City of Edmonton Building Permit will not be officially completed until the City Inspector has reviewed/visited your completed project.
Without an approved Building Permit, construction cannot be started. Therefore, it is important to prepare your submission requirements correctly meeting all the codes and submission requirement before submitting to the City.
